Website Creation
Successful websites typically:
-
Are designed with a consistent and standardised “look and feel” to help minimise extraneous cognitive load, and assist with usability and navigation of the site;
-
Consider navigation across different devices (mobile, laptop, desktop, or tablet);
-
Invite multiple authors and peer review process to increase quality, depth, breadth and dissemination of information (or invite commentary and discussion from the community);
-
Consider linkages with other organisations or popular websites to boost traffic and make connections. Link to already existing high quality online resources when possible instead of recreating materials;
-
Use multimedia (text, video, images, audio, infographics, quizzes, virtual cases, links, etc.), and accessibility features where possible;
-
Employ transparency in any conflicts of interest or bias, and use copyright free or properly sourced and referenced images;
-
Be organised as a curated, but not exhaustive source of information, for a specific audience or community;
-
Link to other online FOAM resources, with descriptors, and to social media;
-
Employ a “contact us” button for feedback and comments, and
-
Be updated regularly (eg. checking for any broken links or outdated materials), ideally with posted date of last update.
